Guruguha Vaibhavam 2019
Come and experience the exquisite Carnatic classical music compositions of Muthuswamy Dikshitar rendered by teachers and students from schools in the Boston area. A unique educational experience about a great composer from the 18th century, one of the pioneers of preservation of South Indian classical music. The event features several of his classic compositions by solo performers in addition to his thematic classics Pancha Bhoota Linga Kritis, Navagraha Kritis, and Kamalamba Navavarana Kritis (acknowledged to be one of the best works from several perspectives). These thematic compositions presented by major schools of music, will also be accompanied by violin and mridangam (percussion) students from Boston-area schools. There will be a mini lecture-demonstration on the veena and vocal and mridangam support. Information about Dikshitar and the unique features of his featured compositions will be presented in a background slide show that has been curated with the help of musicologists from India.
