Saheli Walk for Non-Violence
In support of Saheli's new Men's Initiative: Speaking Out to Stop Violence Against Women and in conjunction with Domestic Violence Awareness month, Saheli Friendship for South Asian women has organized a 5K Walk/Run to raise money for our Women's Assistance Fund. During 2004 and 2005 the Saheli Fund assisted seventeen Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi women with cash, cell phones, food, clothing, housing, medical and legal fees. For Saheli's work in the community, India New England News awarded 'The Woman of The Year Award' to Gouri Banerjee, Domestic Violence coordinator, in June 2005. This award recognized the contributions of Saheli members to the assistance and support of women since 1996.
