India:Campaigning for Universal Access to Health Care (UAHC)
Association for India's Development, MIT & Boston Chapters present a talk by Sudha Nagavarapu India has one of the most privatized health systems in the world, with government spending on health at a little over 1% of the GDP. Along with this fragmentation, lack of standards, corruption, and weak regulation have led to understaffed government hospitals with limited services and a mostly irrational and expensive private health sector. The result has been huge out-of-pocket expenses on health care and poor health outcomes in India. How are health rights activists addressing these issues and campaigning for better access to health care? This talk will provide a background, present some current issues of concern and discuss strategies and approaches adopted by the health movement in India.
