In Conversation With Vikas Sharma Of Inshape Gym

In the heart of a bustling city in Kota, Rajasthan, is a fitness instructor named Vikas Sharma. He is just not any fitness instructor; he is a individual of inspiration and motivation for all his online global community of fitness enthusiasts.  With his youthful energy, positivity and unwavering dedication, Vikas Sir (as he is called) has brought in fun and fitness beyond the confines of his gym to a larger audience. With a WhatsApp group named ‘Determined’ he engages and motivates his member base participating in his fitness program from all over the world.

I was introduced to Vikas Sharma via my nephew Sekhar Duvvuri and his wife Lakshmi in Austin, Texas who urged me to join his online fitness class. I was told that he offers personalized training even in a group setting and is very enthusiastic about fitness. This was in 2022 when COVID was keeping all of us indoors and I was looking for ways to motivate myself into a workout routine. Intrigued, I joined the free class offered by him for three days and was immediately hooked.

What sets Vikas Sharma apart from other instructors is his ability to connect with his clients on a deeper level. He takes the time to understand individual goals, fears, and insecurities. Whether someone is a seasoned athlete or a complete beginner, he makes them feel supported every step of the way.

When I spoke to Vikas Sharma, he said his journey to becoming a fitness instructor was not a conventional one. He did not start out with a passion for fitness or a desire to sculpt perfect bodies. In fact, his journey began with his own struggle to overcome adversity. As a young man, he faced various challenges, from an accident early in life to other health issues that came his way. But he refused to let these obstacles define him. Instead, he turned to fitness as a means of reclaiming control over his life. Through sweat, perseverance, and sheer determination, he transformed his body and, more importantly, his mindset. Along the way, he discovered a newfound sense of purpose – to help others embark on their own transformative journeys.

With this mission in mind, Vikas became a certified fitness instructor and opened his own studio. From the moment clients signed up to his classes, they could sense his passion and dedication. His classes are more than just workouts; they were empowering experiences that left participants feeling stronger, both physically and mentally. 

As a personal trainer he leads individualized workouts incorporating aerobic and anaerobic exercises. Over the last 20 years he has built a strong client base with 97% repeat business and a roaster of satisfied clients. He also offers custom designed exercise, nutrition and strength/conditioning programs that have enabled scores of clients to achieve dramatic weight loss, prevent/reverse type 2 diabetes, reduce medication for depression, anxiety and hypertension and adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Vikas does not just teach his students how to squat or lunge; he teaches them to love and respect their body for all of which it was capable. Many students credit him for guidance and their confidence soars as they begin to see themselves in a whole new light. Pratima Kopakka, from Rhode Island who joined recently says, “ He literally changed my life for the better. I am eating healthy. The results in 2 months were amazing. It motivates me to keep at it.” Veteran members like Sapna, Sangeeta and Rama validate that his workout routine keeps them on track and healthy. Members feel his online gym studio is a place of healing, growth, and community filled with laughter, camaraderie, and the occasional drop of sweat.

“Flexibility, Balance, Strength, come on everybody” instructs Vikas Sharma as I join his 8am class EST every morning. As I get into my stretch routine of mountain stance, superwoman and inchworm, I am reminded that sometimes, our greatest challenges can lead us to unexpected outcomes. For Vikas Sharma, who completes 4 years of conducting online fitness  in mid April 2024, fitness is not just about building muscles or burning calories; it is about empowering others to become the best versions of themselves – inside and out.
