Thomas Kodenkandath

Thomas Kodenkandath, who uses Thommy as the penname is a self-taught cartoonist. He published his first political cartoon at the age of 17 in The Express, a popular Malayalam daily. Since then more than 250 of his cartoons have appeared in various print media that include The Week, OnLooker, The Express, India Weekly and Malayalapathram. He has won several awards for cartooning including RoteFete Award of Rotary Club International, Kalakrithi Award of Madras University, Mardigras Prize of IIT-Madars. While at IIT-M doing Ph.D., he met Shri. R.K. Laxman, the celebrated cartoonist of Times of India and Magsaysay Award winner, who inspired him to continue cartooning along with a research career. He served as the editorial cartoonist for the IIT-M student’s magazines, Campus Times and Spectator. He is a founding member of Kerala Cartoonist Academy. His cartoons (titled “OnLine”) are now regularly appearing in Malayalapathram, a New York based weekly.

Thomas Kodenkandath is a Principal Scientist at American Superconductor Corporation, Westborough. He is an active member of Kerala Association of New England (KANE) and lives in North Grafton with his wife, Rekha and daughters Bridgit & Priya.
