Quincy City Council recognizes Diwali
In working with Quincy City Councillor -at- Large Joseph Finn (former Council President), Kumu Gupta was able to share the story and importance of Diwali with Quincy City Council last week. It was first time Festival of Diwali was officially put on the Council agenda, whose meetings are shown live on Quincy Access Television.
"It was a great sense of joy & pride to spread the message of Diwali with the residents and brought back memories of when I played Ayodhya vasi welcoming Lord Ram back with flower petals, in a school Diwali play in 8th grade" said Kumu Gupta.
In the presentation Kumu also spoke about historic release of the Forever Diwali Stamp by US Postal Service earlier this month and many years of efforts by Indian American community across the US to make it happen. Kumu thanked US Congressman Stephen Lynch, who was ranking member on US Postal Sub Committee, for writing a letter on her behalf and request to the US Postmaster General for issuance of a Diwali Stamp in 2012.
After the Diwali presentation, Kumu received a citation from Quincy City Council for creating interfaith dialogues throughout the City of Quincy and promoting Diwali Forever Stamp.
