Arundhati Datye 11/04/2015 Kalavaibhav was pleased to organize Rahul Deshpande’s melodious concert of Naatyasangeet and Gazals on October 24th at Innovation Academy in Tyngsborough.  Rahul Deshpande is a talented vocalist in Indian classical music. He has gained acclaim due to his adeptness in rendering a wide range of musical forms, including naatya sangeet, thumri, khayal, dadra, gazals, bhajans, and bhaavgeets.  He is the grandson of renowned classical music and natya sangeet singer, Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande.  His songs in the Maanapmaan musical play presented during the Brihan Maharashtra Mandal Conference of 2013 held in Providence had mesmerized the audience, and therefore, New Englanders were really waiting to have the opportunity to hear him perform live again. In addition to being an expert in Naatyasangeet performance, he is adroit in the rendering of gazals as well, although none of his gazal performances had been held in New England in the past.  This program in Tyngsborough provided the audience a rare opportunity to hear him sing gazals as well. In this program Rahul satiated the yearnings of the audience by singing a series of excellent and well-known songs. Beginning from the rendering of Naandi, and then followed by the famous songs from the musical drama Katyaar Kaljaat Ghusali , such as Gheyee Chhand, Yaa Bhavanatila Geet Purane, songs from Maanapamaan, such as Prema Seva Sharana, Ravi Mee, and similar immortal songs were presented by Rahul. He presented famous gazals including Aaye kuchh abr and Baat Nikalegi To Phir melodiously, and also a Marathi gazal composed by Vaibhav Joshi. The audience also liked his ‘Virahinee’ song composed by Chaitanya Kunte. The program ended by Rahul’s singing of the Teertha Vitthala abhang which earned a great applause from the audience. The program ended, but it felt that many a great songs were left to be heard – songs that will need us to invite him to perform again in New England.
