Colleena Shakti: Odissi, Rajasthani Gypsy, and Indian Fusion Dance Masterclasses
Vadalna Tribal Dance Company Presents... COLLEENA SHAKTI October 15, 2011 3 Workshop Series www.vadalna.com/colleena Colleena Shakti is a dancer of great depth and sublety. She has dedicated her life to dance ever since moving to India to undergo intensive training in Odissi Classical Indian dance as well as research and document Rajasthani 'Gypsy' dance. Colleena lives most of the year in Rajasthan and tours internationally (performing and teaching) each summer. Registration Opens: 10:30AM 11:00AM-1:00PM ODISSI Classical Indian Dance: This class will dissect the very structure which we create in the preliminary dance postures of Odissi. The spiritual heritage linked to Odissi, and Indian classical dance in general, adds another dimension to the investigation of dance and art. Subtle concepts of dance and yoga will be introduced through out the workshop, however the focus will be on the practical technique. 1:15PM-3:15PM KALBELIA: Rajasthani 'Gypsy' Dance Workshop: This workshop is a natural approach to this tribal improvisational dance of the alluring Kalbelia snake charmers. This dance is a fun and fast paced, with lots of whirls and playful movements. Colleena brings her stories and insights to give a well-rounded understanding of this dance tradition. All dance levels are welcome! Wear a skirt for spinning and bring a notebook. 3:30PM-5:30PM INDIAN FUSION BELLY DANCE From over a decade of training in traditional lineages of dance, art and spirituality in India, Colleena brings a very tangible and insightful translation of Indian aesthetics that guides her Fusion Dance form. Defining movements and stylizations introduced are: Subtle eye and head movements, hand positions (mudra), gaze, spins, powerful transition steps and beautiful temple dance poses that melt into fluid Belly Dance moves.
