Original Story: Krishan Chander Original Stage Adaptation: Gautam Sengupta Current Stage Adaptation: Arindam Ghosh, Indranil Sarkar Direction: Indranil Sarkar Music: Ayon Basumallik Production : Amitabha Lala Sponsored By: Bangla-O-Biswa Synopsis: Based on a short story by Krishan Chander, this satirical play depicts the incidents that unfold in the wake of a collapsed jaam tree in the fictitious village of Bhongur. An ordinary and mundane incident rapidly escalates into a crisis of epic scale when it is discovered that a human being is trapped under the collapsed tree. A brawl ensues between the parties involved with everyone pointing the finger at each other and fighting over who is responsible for removing the tree. The government blames the industrialist, the industrialist blames back the government, and the opposition party, media, and intellectuals exploit the situation for their own advancement – all the while ignoring the plea of help from the man trapped under the tree. The play is a testimony to the dysfunctional corrupt political system undermining the true democratic process.

Directions: From Cambridge/Somerville: Take Mass. Ave. toward Arlington past the Capitol Theatre (on your left). Go about 6 blocks past the theatre and take a right at the BP Gas station onto Tufts St. From Lexington: Take Mass. Ave. through Arlington Center. Right after the Walgreen\'s (on your right), take a left at the BP Gas Station onto Tufts St. From Rt. 2: Take Rt. 60 exit toward Arlington/Medford (away from Belmont). Follow Rt. 60 until it intersects with Mass. Ave. Take a right on Mass. Ave. Go about 5 blocks, and right past the Walgreen\'s (on your right), take a left at the BP Gas Station onto Tufts St. Once on Tufts Street: After turning onto Tufts, take a left into the parking lot - we are in the brick school building, which we share with other organizations.
