Sitar Concert - Josh Feinberg/Nitin Mitta
The Artists

Josh Feinberg
Josh Feinberg was introduced to music through classical piano at age 4 and later, the bass at age 8. As he entered adolescence, he became interested in improvisation and became increasingly dedicated to music. He began studying jazz and through that path found North Indian Classical music. The music of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and Pandit Nikhil Banerjee made a particularly strong impression on him. From the moment he started playing sitar, Josh was very dedicated to riyaz or practice; it was not unusual for him to practice 10-12 hours in a day. While attending the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Josh studied sitar with Dr. Peter Row. Since 2004 he has had the honor and privilege to study with Ustad Ali Akbar Khan-sahib at the Ali Akbar College of Music in San Rafael, California. 'I consider my time spent with Khan-sahib to be one of the most wonderful blessings in my life. His music is perfect. Even just to hear him speak about music is an amazing experience.' Josh has also received some training from Khan-sahib's senior disciples including Dr. George Ruckert and Sri Anindya Banerjee, with whom he studied during his 2006-2007 Fulbright scholarship to Kolkata, India.

Josh has performed throughout the US, Canada and India. Some of Josh's most notable performances and lecture/demonstrations have been organized by: Harvard University, The New England Conservatory of Music, the Gandhi Memorial Center in Washington DC, the University of Florida in Gainesville, Brandeis University, Purdue University, UC Berkeley Botanical Gardens, Ragamala's Utsav festival, Basant Bahar in San Francisco, the Seattle Indian Music Academy at the University of Washington's Ethnic Cultural Theater, Reed College, the Sangati Center in San Francisco, and the Majestic Theater at Emerson College, Queens College in New York, and a Fulbright Conference in Araungabad, India. He recently performed at the University of Washintgon at Brechemin Hall accompanied by Pandit Samir Chatterjee on tabla. Josh has also made appearances on several TV and radio programs across the US and Canada.

Nitin Mitta
Nitin Mitta, an outstanding tabla player, received his early training in Hyderabad from Pandit G. Satyanarayana and later from Shri Aravind Mulgaonkar. He has performed worldwide with some of India’s most celebrated and honored musicians – such as Pt. Jasraj, Dr. Prabha Atre, Pt. Rajan Sajan Mishra, Pt.Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Smt. Veena Sahasrabudhe and Pt. Budhaditya Mukherjee just to name a few.

His accompaniment – dexterous, supportive and spontaneously inventive, combined with the rich repertoire that he has inherited from his gurus has won him the admiration of music lovers and connoisseurs alike. Nitin is a faculty at LearnQuest Academy of Music.
