Asha for Education NYC/NJ 5k Run/Walk
Asha for Education (Asha) NYC/NJ chapter announced plans to hold its fifth annual 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, May 3rd at Riverside Park in New York City. The run begins and ends in Riverside Park and traverses along the Hudson River in a 5 kilometer / 3.1 mile route. Organizers are expecting approximately 500 participants this year, to help set a new fundraising record. 100% of net proceeds from the event will go towards funding education of underprivileged children across India.
Asha for Education 5K Run/Walk is open to all ages, including young children*. Since its inception, the event has raised over $80,000 dollars through individual donations, corporate sponsorships and other contributions. In 2007, nearly 350 participants raised over $20,000 dollars helping fund projects supported by Asha. Prizes were given to the top fundraisers and the fastest male /female runners. Most of all, the 5K event has been successful in raising awareness and bringing much needed attention to the educational projects in India.
