Legends of Shiva: Mystical Stories through Kathak Dance
The great ascetic. The destroyer. The master of poison and medicine. The deity of dance who sweeps away illusion and ignorance. These are all dimensions of the cosmic figure of Shiva, captured in different legends and fables throughout time. And within every legend, lives some kernel of deeper truth. We are beyond delighted to present Legends of Shiva, a new show that weaves together exemplary works of our Guru, Pt. Chitresh Das, alongside stunning new choreography from Chhandika faculty. Under the artistic vision of Shefali Jain and guidance of Gretchen Hayden, Artistic Director of Chhandika, students and senior teachers from all our branches will explore the timeless stories of Shiva. Featuring esteemed musicians from India, Jayanta Banerjee on sitar and Satyaprakash Mishra on tabla, and vocalist Sujatha Kumar, Legends of Shiva promises to be an engaging and enthralling experience told through the ancient Indian classical dance form of Kathak.
