An evening of Acoustic Folk and Indian Classical Music
Please come and join us for a unique evening of music performances with Boston vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Kelli Eagan, and Soma Sarkar, Hindustani Classical Singer from Serampore, West Bengal, India (now presently in Maryland). Tabla artist Amol Khanapurkar, from Mumbai, India (now presently in the Boston area) will accompany both Kelli and Soma’s performances. Kelli will share her original music compositions played on acoustic guitar along with some classic Hindi songs. Soma will perform in the North Indian Classical style of singing.

Kelli Eagan grew up in Buffalo, NY and began playing guitar at the age of 14. She has been singing since childhood and received Classical vocal training in college. She has been writing and performing her own compositions on acoustic guitar for more than 20 years in a variety of cities including Boston, Buffalo, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and more recently Delhi, India. She presently lives in the Boston area and her performances over the years include: TT the Bears Place, Middle East Club, The Kendall Café, Center for Arts at the Armory, All Asia Café, coffeehouses, open mics and the subways. She has a great love and appreciation for learning about India and its’ music which has led her to study Indian Classical music (vocal and instrumental). She has made several meaningful journeys to India and presently learning North Indian Classical singing from teacher and fellow performer, Soma Sarkar. Additionally she is learning the Hindi language and will include singing some classic Hindi songs along with her acoustic guitar for the performance. Soma Sarkar, a Hindustani Classical Singer and a Professor of Education, is a senior disciple of her Guru Shri Dilip Baran Sarkar of Agra Gharana. Shri Dilip Baran Sarkar comes from the lineage of Late Ustad Sharafat Hussain Khan and Late Pt. Gyan Prakash Ghosh to name a few. She was born in West Bengal, India and grew up in a family of educators and scientists. Her family has always loved and practiced various forms of Arts including Hindustani Sangeet. At the tender age of five, her mother recognized her singing talent and decided that she should start her formal lessons in Hindustani Classical singing. She received her 'Sangeet Visharad' degree with Distinction in 1994 and a Masters of Music in Music Education in 2003 from The New England Conservatory, Boston. Soma has been teaching Hindustani Classical Singing for over 15 years in DC/MD/VA and many other parts of the U.S. http://www.somasarkar.com

Amol Khanapurkar has been learning Tabla for the past 20 years from Tabla maestro Pandit Sadashiv Pawar. He has performed at a number of prestigious world music festivals and music conferences held in various countries like India, UK, France, Australia, New Zealand, and the USA. He has had the privilege of performing with distinguished artistes like Padmabhushan Ustad Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan, Padma Vibhushan Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Padmabhushan Pandita Prabha Atre, Smt. Neela Bhagwat, Smt. Arati Ankalikar-Tikekar, Shri Zunain Khan to name a few. Amol holds a bachelor's degree in music and is a gold medalist (music) from the University of Mumbai. He has represented the University at National level for percussion music. He has also received the prestigious Sangeet Bhushan award. http://www.amolkhanapurkar.com
