| Job Hunting in a Down Economy If you think that this is just another “feel good event”, with pat answers then take another read! “Job Hunting in a Down Economy” is planned as a high intensity group interaction session (including a seasoned panel) to discuss pragmatic ways of job seeking and job redefinition in the current economy. We intend to run this event in a “Town Meeting format” (aka Ted Koppel - sans props) to address some of the tough issues while opening our minds to new thinking. This session will deal with the Realities of the “Really New Economy” where people are: · lining up behind hundreds of others for that one job · sitting in a company that is going through a systematic process of downsizing · working for a start-up that is draining its funding hoping that a miracle will save them tomorrow · coming out of school and the recruiters are not knocking you down The objective is to generate New Thinking about job search strategies or about alternate careers or ventures you might want to consider. We intend the discussions to range from current views of the economy and job market, to identifying specific markets/areas of opportunity, identifying effective job search strategies, adjusting expectations to get the job you want, and thinking outside the box about alternate careers to tide over the downturn. We want the audience to leave with a New Energy to: · deal with the challenges with increased confidence and new ideas · leverage the power of GCoF as a collaborative and supportive community that will increase your network for potential opportunities and for thinking through radical ideas.
