Silk Road Gala
Lasandhi Dance Theater presents a dynamic fusion of the ancient and contemporary, featuring innovative choreography based on classical Indian dance forms with original music from Indian, Japanese and Middle Eastern traditions. TheSilk Road Gala is a wonderful annual fundraising dinner and auction that celebrates Asian culture and cuisine and benefits the Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence, which provides emergency shelter, a multilingual hotline, and stabilization services, support, and advocacy to over 200 battered Asian families every year. Silk Road, now in its ninth year, has included music and performances from China, Cambodia, Vietnam, India, the Philippines, and other parts of Asia. Many exquisite dishes from Asian cultures have been featured on the gala?s menu. In 2001, the Silk Road Gala raised over $270,000, providing critically needed support for battered Asian women and their children and allowing the Task Force to expand its outreach to underserved, isolated communities.
