KALYANASUNDARAM - Thavil A.K.C Natarajan is a legend in carnatic music and his name is synonymous with the Clarionet. He started learning carnatic vocal music at the age of 10 from Alathur Venkateswaran Iyer and Nadaswaram from Ellupur Natesa Pillai. He has been performing since 1946. Endowed with remarkable insight he underwent rigorous training and learned nuances of playing Carnatic music on the Clarionet from his father A.K. Chinnakrishna Naidu. He is known for his fine musical sense and took great pains to adapt the Clarionet to suit the needs of carnatic music. He is noted for his raga alapanas and vocalized technique. A.K.C. Natarajan is the recepient of many awards and recognition throughout his entire career as the Clarionet Vidwan (Pundit) including the Sangeetha Natak Academy award from the President of India in 1994, the title of "Clarionet Everest" from Thiruvadudurai Rajarathnam Pillai and "Isai Peraringnar" from Tamil Isai Sangam. Munikumar started Nadaswaram training under his father K. Nanda Gopal and later got training from A.K.C. Natarajan. Vasudevan and Kalyanasundaram are well known Thavil vidwans of South India. They have accompanied A.K.C Natarajan and Munikumar during their national and foreign tours. Follow directions below from Temple Street. From Mass Pike: Take Exit 12, Framingham. Follow Route 9 East for 1.5 miles to Temple Street. Follow directions below from Temple Street. From Route 128: Take Exit 20B, Route 9 West, Framingham. Go through Wellesley, Natick (Natick Mall on right) and Framingham until you hit Temple Street. Follow directions below from Temple Street. From Temple Street: The intersection of Route 9 and Temple Street has the four landmarks on the corners: Stop & Shop, Finally Michael Restaurant, a Gulf station and Temple Place. If your are travelling west on Route 9, you will have to exit to the right and swing around to get onto Temple street. If you are travelling east on Route 9, you will turn right onto Temple Street. Follow Temple street for 0.2 miles until you come to a stop sign. Turn left onto Salem End Road and follow this Road for 0.3 miles until you come to a stoplight. Turn right onto Winter Street. Follow this road for 1.5 miles. Keefe Technical school is on left. The auditorium is on the east side (back side) of the building. From 135 West: Cross Natick and get into Framingham. Cross Route 126 (Framingham Commuter Rail station on right). At the next traffic light (Long Cadillac dealership on left), make a right onto Fountain street. Travel for .7 miles. The school parking lot adjacent to the entrance to the auditorium is on the right. From 135 East: Enter Ashland. You will come to a stoplight at the intersection of Chestnut street (Dairy Queen on left). Continue on 135 East for 1.1 miles to Framingham line. Travel for another .5 miles and make a left onto Winter street. Cross the bridge and make a right at the next traffic light. The school parking lot adjacent to the entrance to the auditorium is on the right. |
