| Carnatic Vocal Music Concert / Mrs. R. Ramani R. Ramani: Mrs. R. Ramani was born in a family of musicians and is bestowed with good Sangita gnana. She received her initial training in Vocal music and Veena from a renowned music teacher in Chennai Mrs. Ramani Venkataraman, a disciple of Namakkal Sesha Iyengar, Devakottai Narayana Iyengar and Karaikudi Sambasiva Iyer. Later she continued vocal music with Mrs. R.Vedavalli, a disciple of Mudicondan C. Venkatarama Iyer and Veena with Mrs. Ranganayaki Rajagopalan of the Karaikkudi school. She also excelled academically in music having received a gold medal in the BA and the first rank in the MA degree at Madras University. Mrs. Ramani retired as an A grade staff artiste from All India Radio, Chennai. She is a lecturer of Vocal Music at Teachers? College of Music, Music Academy Chennai. She also serves as a music journalist for local newspapers and magazines during the Music season. Mrs. Ramani has received many prizes and awards in music competitions. She has given concerts in all leading sabhas in Chennai - The Music Academy, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Saraswati, Ragasudha, Rasika Ranjani Sabha - to name a few, and all over India. She has also performed in the National Program of Music on All India Radio and for Doordarshan, the Indian TV. She has received acclamation from Music critics - to quote one music critic: ?She plays the veena with sahitya bhava and her raga alapana beautifully reveals the expression of her vidwat? Pravin Sitaram: Pravin Sitaram has learned mridangam from his guru, Sri P. S. Parameswaran of Bombay. Sri Parameswaran is a disciple of the Late Sri Palghat T. S. Mani Iyer. Pravin has accompanied many musicians in Bombay and has participated and won prizes in several competitions in Bombay. Since coming to the Boston area, Pravin has been very active in concert accompaniment. He has accompanied Late Dr. Chitti Babu and more recently, Sri T. V. Ramprasad, Mysore Srinath, Smt. Vani Satish, R. Prasanna, and Smt. Revathi Ramaswamy. Pravin has a Doctorate in Polymer Chemistry and has been in the Boston area for the past seven years.
