Seminar on Development of the Classical Form - Khayal / Dr. Prabha Atre
Khyal is the most popular form representing North Indian Classical vocal music today. A form chooses its material and arranges it in a special way. The material in North Indian classical vocal music comprises of bandish, alaaps, bols, sargam and taans. This workshop will expose the audience to the musical material and its use in music making.
Dr. Prabha Atre
'Gaana Prabha' Dr. Prabha Atre (b. 1931) is a household name among connoisseurs of Indian classical music, and has recently been honored with the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award of the Indian government, for her contribution to the musical community and to society. Prabhaji received her musical training from late Pt. Sureshbabu Mane and late Surashree Hirabai Barodekar - the son and daughter of the late Ustad Abdul Karim Khan-saheb. Urbane, articulate and educated in many aspects of music and the social sciences, Prabhaji occupies a very special place in the pantheon of great masters of Hindustani music.
