Odissi Dance Performance
Sonali Mishra returns to present an evening of Classical Odissi Dance. Hailing from the eastern state of Orissa in India, this 2000-year old classical dance style has travelled from the ancient temples in Orissa to major cities all over the globe. Renowned for its lyrical grace, intricate footwork, sculpturesque poses, and deep-rooted spirituality, Odissi remains one of the world's most complex and highly evolved art forms! Sonali Mishra has trained with renowned dancers Smt. Aruna Mohanty, Guru Sri Bichitrananda Swain, and Sri Ramesh C. Jena. She is currently training with renowned dancer Smt. Sujata Mohapatra. She has performed as a soloist at the International Odissi Dance Festival, the Devadasi FEstival, the National Festival of Odissi Dance, the Asian American Dance Festival, and the Stirring Odissi International Festival. She is currently based in New York.
