| Arun Shourie "India's Response to the Economic Meltdown and What Lies Ahead" In the highly interconnected world of today the Global Financial Crisis has impacted the Indian financial markets and India's growth story. Upon recognition of the crisis, India declared three stimulus packages valued at a total of about 7 per cent of its GDP. There have been several other measures recommended by noted Indian economists; monetary policy changes, to make the Rupee more liquid and a more flexible exchange rate regime. How is India dealing with the meltdown? Does its growing middle class and domestic consumption-led economic development have a role to play? Arun Shourie is among India's best known commentators on current and political affairs. He was most recently Minister for Disinvestment, of Communications and Information Technology of India, but he is better known for his insightful writings on a range of subjects with rigorous thought and razor sharp logic.
