Dr. Prabha Atre - A Workshop on Hindustani Vocal Music
Dr. Prabha Atre's workshop will address the students of vocal music at various different levels. For beginning to intermediate students, Dr. Atre will expound on what to master and focus on in order to prepare for improvisation in Khyal singing. At the same time her exposition will contain advice for the teachers on the exercises and the material to focus on to prepare their students to learn improvisation. For advanced and experienced students of music, the workshop will cover ideas on carrying out 'the badhat' (improvisational elaboration) in a khyal. These ideas and techniques will be exposed in the context of a specific raga and bandish.
After the workshop, students will have an opportunity to interact with Prabhaji over a pot luck dinner at LearnQuest. An RSVP will be greatly appreciated.
We hope the students of Hindustani vocal music will be able to take advantage of this workshop inspite of the short notice. If there is enough interest, Prabha ji has agreed to conduct a follow up workshop on Saturday, May 17th as well.
