~A Seminar on Elements of Khayal Gayaki-Learnquest Academy~
Musical Problem Solving by Shri. Warren Senders. This seminar, will explore in some detail the elements of Khayal style of singing, the most prevalent style today among all other styles of Hindustani classical vocal music. The seminar will expose the audience to various techniques involved in Khayal rendering, built around the theme of "musical problem-solving". The nature of the seminar will be highly interactive and questions from the audience are most welcome. Musical problem solving deals with the four dimensions of practice and performance: Physiology, Pattern Recognition, Memory, and Imagination. Each of these dimensions calls for different learning and practice strategies, and failure to recognize which dimension is stressed can lead to frustrating practice, wasted time and unresolved difficulties. These "dimensions" imply the various important aspects of Hindustani vocal performance such as Voice production, Intonation, Musical patterning and exercises, Repertoire, Improvisation and Stylistic Development. Shri. Warren Senders -Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Warren began studying Hindustani Music at the age of 18 under Smt. Kalpana Majumdar. Warren was awarded an Indo -American Fellowship in 1985 and spent the year in daily practice at the home of the great Pandit Bhimsen Joshi in Pune. Since 1986, he has been a disciple of Pt.
