Laya - Time Sculpted: Bharatanayam Perforance by Rukmini Vijayakumar
Rukmini Vijayakumar is a dancer, trained in the traditional Indian dance form of “Bharatanatyamâ€. She has studied under some of the most reputed dance gurus in India for the last 17 years. She blossomed into a young dancer of promise under the able guidance of late Smt Narmada, a student of the Tanjore lineage. She began her training under Smt Padmini Rao and has studied Karanas extensively under Smt Sundari Santhanam, a senior disciple of Dr Padma Subramanyam.
‘Laya’- time sculpted. Is a dance performance of traditional Bharatanatyam pieces that showcase the intricate footwork, rhythm and touching expressions of the art. Experience the rhythm of the universe, feel time sculpted and watch the tradition of ‘Lord Nataraja’ the cosmic dancer, the source of primordial sound. ‘Laya’ by Rukmini Vijayakumar On Friday March 28th and Saturday March 29th at 8 pm. At the Boston Conservatory Zach Box Theater, 8 The Fenway, Boston ‘Laya’ is choreographed by Guru Smt Narmada and Rukmini Vijayakumar.
