A Harmonious Interlude with Kedar Naphade
Kedar Naphade is a promising young exponent of the art of harmonium solo and accompaniment. For over 15 years, Kedar has been a leading disciple of Pt. Tulsidas Borkar, and has also had the privilege of training from Smt. Padmavati Shaligram-Gokhale, a veteran singer of the Atrauli-Jaipur gharana. Kedar has shared the stage with luminaries such as his guru Smt. Padmavati Shaligram-Gokhale, Pt. Jasraj, Smt. Laxmi Shankar, Smt. Veena Sahasrabuddhe, Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar, Smt. Prabha Atre, Pt. Phiroz Dastur etc.

Harmonium: Samvaadini or Suvaadini? is an interactive program or lec-dem consisting of a solo recital of classical and light classical music, interspersed with perspectives on the history and evolution of the harmonium, thoughts on its role as a solo and an accompanying instrument as well as an interactive question-answer session with the audience.

While the harmonium is quite certainly the most commonly found musical instrument in households that have an affinity to Hindustani classical music, paradoxically, it also is probably the instrument which is the least played and heard in a solo performance mode. One of the reasons behind this is the lack of a plethora of truly accomplished and learned harmonium soloists in the 20th century.

Kedar's guru, Pt. Tulsidas Borkar has created a unique style of harmonium solo that presents a confluence of dextrous instrumental wizardry as well as the soulfulness of the vocal art form. Borkarji has truly revolutionized the performance of harmonium solo as well as accompaniment in the last several decades. Through high caliber performances as well as teaching and mentoring students, he has provided to the harmonium a degree of respect, which did not exist previously. For these contributions, he was recently awarded the Sangeet Natak Academy award from the President of India.

This event is a rare opportunity to enjoy Pt. Borkarji's style of harmonium solo and learn more about this instrument!
