Odissi Sandhya: An Evening of Odissi Dance by Sonali Mishra
Sonali Mishra, senior disciple of Gurus Sri Bichitrananda Swain and Sri Ramesh Jena presents Odissi Sandhya: An Evening of Odissi Dance. Hailing from the Eastern coastal state of Orissa in India, Odissi evolved from the ancient practice of Devasevas, or daily prayer rituals, by the Devadasis, who performed devotional dances for Lord Jagannath. Renowned for its lyrical grace, intricate footwork, sculturesque poses, and deep-rooted spirituality, Odissi remains one of the world's most complex and highly evolved art forms.

Sonali Mishra has been travelling to India regularly since 1995 for further intensive training and refinement under her Gurus, which includes one year of rigorous study from 1999-2000. She has performed extensively in the US, UK, India, and Canada, and has conducted a number of lecture-demonstrations on Odissi dance at leading colleges and universities throughout the US. Sonali currently resides in New York City.
