| AID MIT and Boston Chapters Celebrate its 10thAnniversary! Association For India's Development Boston and MIT Chapters Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary with Dr. Balaji Sampath (AID Jeevansaathi)& Kalpana Karunakaran. Dr. Sampath, in his capacity as the AID Tsunami Relief and Rehabilitation coordinator, was elected as an Ashoka Fellow. Balaji's “Learning by Doing†concept of using visual aids and tool kits to teach science was implemented in 400 schools by the state government in India. In 2005, Balaji and AID Chennai team were chosen for MIT Global Indus Technovator Award. Kalpana Karunakaran has extensive field experience in community health, micro-credit and women's issues. As a co-ordinator of MALAR, she has been instrumental in starting a number of Self-help-groups (SHGs) which became a model for large-scale women's empowerment programs across India.
