| Global Feminisms - Sonia Khurana The RISD Museum presents a Video in Person artist talk: Sonia Khurana Thursday April 5, 6pm Sonia Khurana, a video artist from Delhi, India, talks about her work on the occasion of her installation in the 'Global Feminisms' show at the new Elizabeth Sackler Center for Feminist Art at the Brooklyn Museum (Curated by Maura Riley and Linda Nochlin). Khurana shows internationally in major galleries, museums, and film festivals, and last year was featured in the major touring exhibition 'Edge of Desire: Recent Art in India.' Khurana was born in 1968 in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. She studied at the Delhi College of Art, New Delhi and the Royal College of Art, London on an INLAKS grant. Her need to go beyond painting has led her towards a variety of media including film, video, photography, performance and installations. A great deal of her work is in video, which is often the end result of a performance. She uses the temporality of the medium to interrogate the vulnerability of secret desires. Her impulse is to employ the body as a site of contestation even while seeking the self as a form of excess and redundancy. This results in a constant reinvention of the self, marked by a tragic-comic tenor. She lives and works in New Delhi and Amsterdam.
