Shashank - Carnatic Flute / MITHAS
Shashank Subramaniam, a young South Indian bamboo flute virtuoso, has captivated rasikas world-wide with his 'extraordinary range of musical expression- from the deepest meditations to youthful fun and astonishing virtuosity.' Considered a prodigy, Shashank learnt vocal music from veterans including Palghat K.V. Narayanaswamy, until the age of six when he stunned onlookers by playing the flute spontaneously. He was introduced to the world music stage at his maiden flute concert in Adelaide, Australia, at the tender age of 11. He became the youngest musician at the age of 12 to be invited to play the prestigious 'SADAS' concert at the Music Academy, Chennai. Since then, Shashank has raised the rungs of music and has carved himself a niche as an instrumentalist par excellence. He is credited for having gi ven the dimension of deep bass to the shrill sound of flute, which has now propelled this instrument to a coveted position in Indian music.
