Lakshmi Vishwanathan, Bharatnatyam Dance
Dancer, choreographer, scholar, and author Lakshmi Vishwanathan is a virtuoso in the art of Abhinaya (mime), in which the dancer-like a painter or a sculptor-fills space with color, mood, and meaning. Vishwanathan uses classical Indian text and melodies to express emotions of love- ranging from desire, anticipation, disappointment and euphoria to jealousy, dejection, and despair. Explanations are provided in English. Presented in collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology Heritage of the Arts of South Asia.
