| India: Life in Color Harvard Arts Festival cordially invites to an exhibition of art works “India: Life in Color†by Kiran Soni Gupta Kiran Soni Gupta is an artist, writer and an activist administrator is presently a Mason Fellow at the Kennedy School of Government. Last year, she was on a Government of India’s Scholarship at the Maxwell School, Syracuse University, USA. Prior to coming to US she was posted as Commissioner, Command Area Development & Colonization Bikaner in Rajasthan. It is however through the brush & paint that Kiran Soni Gupta’s creativity and sensitivity finds best illustration and expression. Despite having no formal training in art forms and styles her works very vividly reflect not only her conviction and clarity on issues relating to women, children, poverty, development, environment but also her keen sense of observation, humility and above all an abounding faith in God and service to humanity and mankind. From sketches, pen & ink works to mix media she has given to new horizons to art forms both traditional and modern. She has many national & international shows to her credit. She also won the National Award in 2003 for her painting on Famine. Various assignments have provided her opportunities to travel and also to stay with amidst nature as diverse as the rain drenched tropical forests and beaches of Kerala and the scrub lands of the desert of Rajasthan and this is expressed in her landscapes in oil, stained glass, knife painting, water colors & also mixed media. The iconic influence of the spirituality and mythology of her surroundings is all there in many of her paintings in the Tanjore styles.
