Carnatic FLUTE: "Surmani" V. K. RAMAN
TARA ANAND - Violin
K. RAMESH - Mridangam

V.K. Raman ---------- V.K. Raman is one of the leading carnatic flautists from South India. Raman, a disciple of the flute maestro Dr. Ramani, started learning flute at the age of 9. He started giving full-fledged concerts at the age of 15. Raman has performed in many prestigious organizations in India and abroad giving solo concerts as well as duet concerts with his guru. Raman is a recipient of many awards and titles including“Surmani” conferred by Sur Singar Samad of Bombay, the Best Musician Award from the Karnataka Ganakala Parishath, Bangalore and gold medal from Sri. Jayendra Saraswathi of Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt. Raman has traveled widely in US, UK, Switzerland, SriLanka and Japan giving concerts. He is a Grade “A” of All India and Doordarshan. He is also a great composer and has scored music for many Dance/Theatre productions. Furthermore, he has worked with many great musicians such as RK Srikantan, Doraiswamy Iyengar, Nedunoori Krishnamoorthi, Balamurali Krishna and Nusruth Fateh Ali Khan in their productions. His latest project “Shanthi” with musicians like MS Sheela is due to be released soon. He has also performed in many Jugalbandhi and Fusion concerts working with great musicians such as L. Subramaniam, Louis Banks, Charlie Mariano of Germany, Ramamani and T.A.S. Mani of KCP, Raghavendra of US. Enchanting and transcendent music flows from Raman's flute as he has mastered superb blowing and fingering technique by which the tonal quality is at its peak. He plays the krithis in Gayaki (Vocal) style. Raman has been appreciated by connoisseurs for his melodic rendition, purity of notes, unique elucidation of ragas with tonal purity and perfect pitch alignment.
Tara Anand----------Tara Anand an accomplished violinist and vocalist, began vocal training at the age of four. Her gurus include T.M.Thiagarajan, K.V.Krishnan and Shankara Sharma. She began violin at the age of eight with Vedavalli Ramaswami of Delhi and T.Rukmini of Chennai. Tara has received numerous awards from the Music Academy and Krishna Gana Sabha in Madras, including best junior artists for three consecutive years. She has accompanied many leading artists, T.R.Subramaniam, M.L.Vasantha Kumari, Prof.Ramanathan, and Sudha Raghunathan to name a few. She has also performed in concerts with her guru T. Rukmini. She presently teaches Carnatic music (both vocal and violin) in Boston area.
K. Ramesh --------- K. Ramesh is a disciple of Padmashri Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman. Ramesh has accompanied many renowned musicians including Thrivengadu Jayaraman, Veena artistes Pitchumani Iyer and Veena Gayatri. He is also a winner of the All India Radio Music Competition.

The auditorium is at walking distance from Kendall Square T-station (Redline). From Masspike (Rte. 90): Part 1: Take Exit 18 and proceed towards Cambridge. Go past two sets of lights. Cross the bridge and make a right onto Memorial Drive East. Go over BU bridge, a set of traffic lights, and underneath Massachusetts Avenue crossover. Stay on left. Part 2: Look for sign "Kendall Square" on left. Make a left before this sign onto Wadeworth Street. Cross Memorial Drive West and go straight. Wong Auditorium is on your left. From Expressway (Rte. 93): Take Exit 26 to Storrow Drive West. Take left Exit to Massachusetts Avenue. Make a right onto Harvard Bridge. Cross the bridge and make a right onto Memorial Drive. Stay on left. Follow above directions under Part 2. Parking: There is a parking lot adjacent to the auditorium. There is also a parking lot on Amherst Street opposite to the auditorium.
