| Classical Indian Literature, Aesthetics & Philosophy 2 Lectures by Renowned Sanskrit Scholar Dr. V. Kutumba Sastry Prof. Sastry is the Vice-Chancellor of National Sanskrit Institute, India and a delightful scholar of Indian Literature and Philosophy. Lecture I: Indian Poetics and Aesthetics Saturday, July 23, 2005 ~ 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM Venue: Room 6-120 MIT, 77 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA 02139 The participants will get a rare insight into the Classical Indian literary landscape and the theories of poetics and aesthetics with special reference to the works of genius poets such as Valmiki and Kalidas. The lecture will explore the development of Indian aesthetics from Rasa theory of Bharata to Dhvani theory of Anandavardhana and Abhinavagupta. This workshop requires no knowledge of Sanskrit and is intended to bring delight to any lover of literature and philosophy. Lecture II: Evolution of Upanishadic Thought Sunday, July 24, 2005 ~ 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM Venue: Chinmaya Mission, 1 Union Street, Andover, MA 01810 Upanishads are the foundation of Indian philosophical systems in general and Vedantic thought in particular. The lecture will introduce the basic concepts of major Upanishads and trace the development of thought which culminates in the various systems of Indian philosophy, arts and culture.
