Remembering Truffaut - Introduction by Antonie Da Baecque
Mississippi Mermaid (La Sirène du Mississippi)
Directed by François Truffaut
France 1969, 35mm, color, 123 min.
With Catherine Deneuve, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Nelly Borgeaud
French with English subtitles
An homage to Hitchcock and Renoir, this overlooked gem stars Belmondo as a plantation owner living off the coast of Madagascar. He awaits the arrival of his mail-order bride who comes in the exquisite form of Deneuve. But, despite her allure, he suspects that she may not be the woman he expected.
To pay respects to Truffaut twenty years after his passing, former editor of Cahiers du cinema and author of a wonderful biography of the filmmaker, Antione de Baecque will introduce this special event. Harvard Film Archive
