Bharat ki Chhap (The Identity of India)
The South Asia Forum at MIT & The Alliance for a Secular and Democratic South Asia Invite you to attend screenings and discussion of the acclaimed television series on the History of Science and Technology in the Indian Sub-continent Bharat ki Chhap (The Identity of India) The series was awarded the prestigious Prix del Agence Jules Verne by the Government of France for audio-visual work in the area of science popularization. From the rock paintings of the Stone Age, the riddle of the Harappan script, the philosophical traditions in Ayurveda and Astronomy, the mathematics of temple architecture, the introduction of new technologies in the Mughal Period to the colonization of natural resources during the British rule and the role of modern science in nationalist visions of progress, the series illuminates the processes of science and technology in South Asia. The series is intended to stimulate debate and discussion on the complex interplay of science, history and society. The material is aimed primarily at high school and college students but the issues with which the series is concerned are relevant for all ages.
