Sitar and Sarod Performance
An Evening of South Asian Classical Music Ustad Ikhlaq Hussain - sitar - Naren Budhakar - tabla - Opening performance by Pushpen Dey - sarod - $15 regular admission $8 student Sitar maestro Ikhlaq Hussain hailing from Karachi, Pakistan began learning his art at age 14 from his father the illustrious Ustad Imdad Hussain of the Delhi Gharana whose lineage traces back seven centuries. He also learned at the feet of Pandit Ravi Shankar and has crafted brilliant performances in different countries as well as across the US including Boston/MIT, Central Park in New York City, Virginia, Washington DC, San Diego, Houston, Sacramento, CA, Portland, OR, among others. He is accompanied by the excellent tablachi Naren Budhakar based in New York originally from Hyderabad, India whose 12 years of experience has culminated in many memorable moments in their two years of performing together. Pushpen Dey hails from Kolkata (Calcutta), India where he learned his art from renowned sarodia Pandit Buddhadev Gupta in the Senia Gharana tradition. He obtained his Bachelor of Music (Sangeet Prabhakar) in Indian Classical Music (instrumental) from the reputed "Prayag Sangeet Samity" of Allahabad and is an " A " grade artiste of AlI India Radio and Doordharshan.
