| Bangaladeshi Drama - Nankar Pala The Bangladeshi Association of New England (BANE) presents “Nankar Pala” by Abdullahel Mahmud and directed by Bipul Kamal. The play is about the history of farmers who revolted against British colonialism in “Haour” Maymanshingh, Bangladesh. “Nan” means bread and “Nankar” means a slave purchased by bread. During British rule, the “Jamindars” or feudal landlords used to purchase slaves to do work in exchange for bread and meals. Date: 05/17/2003 Location: East Somerville Community School, 115 Pearl St., Somerville, Mass.
