Indian and Tap Dance Fusion at Munroe Saturday Nights!
Take two beautiful dance forms, first from one of the world's oldest and most revered cultures; second from a distinctly American dance genre. Stir well, with two talented and exciting dancers, and you've got Dance Fusion, which headlines the next Munroe Saturday Nights performance on Saturday, April 26 at 7:30 PM. The performance will take place at the Community of Christ, 1386 Massachusetts Avenue, in Lexington, and is free (donations gratefully accepted).
The evening's stars are Jayshree Bala Rajamani and Ryan P. Casey. Both are well known to Lexington dance enthusiasts: Jayshree is Founder and Artistic Director of the Bharathakalai School of Dance. Bharathanatyam, the style of dance taught by Jayshree, is a centuries old dance form that originates from the Hindu Temples of Southern India. It is perhaps the most codified and documented ancient dance form in the entire world. Jayshree was, in 2013, a finalist for the Woman of The Year Award for Excellence in Dance; she has been teaching for 25 years and now, brings her dance artistry into connection with that of Ryan Casey.
Ryan P. Casey has been praised by The Boston Globe for his 'rocketing rhythms and stylish moves,' and trained under Thelma Goldberg and Kelly Kaleta with the Legacy Dance Company of The Dance Inn in Lexington, MA, where he is now on faculty. He served as dance captain of Aaron Tolson's New England Tap Ensemble, is a founding member of Michelle Dorrance's company, Dorrance Dance, and has performed with Billy Siegenfeld's Jump Rhythm Jazz Project and Lisa LaTouche's Tap Phonics, and has been seen on 'So You Think You Can Dance.' He says, 'I believe in dance that is rhythmic, engaging, and accessible, grounded in the rhythm-first pedagogy with which I was trained. I strive to create work that propels tap forward and explores its myriad possibilities while simultaneously acknowledging its roots [and my own].'
The Munroe Saturday Nights evening of dance fusion will unite the energy and artistry of two remarkable dance styles. This evening is suitable for families and children age 8 and over. Reservations are strongly encouraged as seating is limited.
