WHAT’S IN YOUR SHOPPING CART?

This earth day you get to pick what goes in.

Have you heard? A plastic bag ban is on its way in Massachusetts. But, do you really need a ban before you stop using it? Lokvani joins with Plastic Bag Busters and invites you to a “100 bags challenge” for this earth day. Say no to 100 plastic bags in the next few months, and instead take your own bag when you go shopping.

Why plastic bags are bad?

Every year approximately 1 billion plastic bags are used in the US and only 1 to 2% of the plastic bags are recycled. Plastic bags are produced from fossil fuels like natural gas and oil, using up non-renewable resources. It takes hundreds of years for one polyethylene plastic bag to break down. Plastic bags don’t bio degrade but they photo degrade into tiny poisonous bits that pollute the water and soil. As a result of the plastic bag pollution thousands of marine animals and birds have died.

The 100 Bags Challenge

The idea of the 100 bags challenge comes from the philosophy that if you do something repeatedly it becomes a habit. So try and say no to 100 plastic bags. For the next 3 months, let’s count how often we refuse plastic bags. Kudos to those who may be already taking your own reusable bags to the grocery store. You can still make your action count by signing up. You can go one step further and try it for ALL your shopping.

The more people who try our challenge the more bags refused. It’s the easiest and cheapest thing we can do for our environment. Sign up. We’ll send you a FREE app to help you keep track and we’ll mail you a free reusable bag when you reach 100.
