MIT SAAS Jadoo Was Magical

Students at MIT held their annual culture show on April 11, 2004 at the Kresge Auditorium.  Each year they showcase the rich talents of the undergraduate students at MIT.

This year’s show was in support of the Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation of USA, an organization that brings education to very rural and tribal areas in India and Nepal. The organization is in 57,000 villages reaching over 1.6 million children.

The opening number was a lovely Desh Tillana performed by MIT Natya.   MIT Ohms, the South Asian a capella group at MIT presented a lovely set of original compositions. , MIT Bhangara presented an energetic Bhangara number while and MIT Swara a classical ensemble presented a Thillana in Carnatic style. Swades was a special multilingual medley featuring songs in seven different languages.

There were several fusion and Bollywood dance numbers presented by MIT Chamak, MIT Mirchi and Boston University KTK. Freshman dance , Senior dance and Men in Heat, MIT SAAS staples were rendered beautifully.

For me it was an honor to attend this event not just as the mother of MIT alum who were very active participants in several groups during their time at MIT but also to talk about my very dear organization Ekal Vidyalaya.  More about Ekal at http://ekal.org.

I look forward to the event again next year.
