Vishaka Hari Returns!

Chinmaya Mission Boston
presents
Bhaktha Meera
A Harikatha by Smt. Vishaka Hari
Friday April 11 at 7 pm

Vishaka Hari, a chartered accountant and committed musician, takes the ancient art of Kathakalakshepam forward! – The Hindu

Smt. Vishaka Hari is the disciple of the legendary Carnatic violinist, Lalgudi Jayaraman. Her spiritual guru is her father-in-law Sri Sri Krishna Premiji (Sri Sri Anna), and she has been mentored by her husband Sri Hariji. Be it in a temple, at the Chennai Music Academy, for a lecture demonstration in London, or the Thyagarja Aradhana in Cleveland, Vishaka Hari adorns every stage with her presence. She is the recipient of several awards and titles, including Harikatha Choodamani, Thyagaraja Prathidwani, Woman Par Excellence and Yuva Kala Bharathi.

What is Harikatha? “It’s a theatrical art form where there is music, dance, drama and story telling. All the navarasas are contained here. And it elevates the soul because the musical stanzas are soaked in devotion,” Vishaka Hari says.

As we approach the much awaited day, the excitement and memories of  Smt. Hari’s previous visit to Chinmaya Mission Boston surface. Her two day Kathakalakshepam on Krishna Leela and Hanuman cast a spell on the audience.  Her bhakthi-filled discourses engaged the audience so much so that the crowd danced along with Krishna on the snake Kaliya’s head and shed tears while she described Hanuman beholding Sita for the first time in the Ashoka Vana of Lanka. Fully aware that she had a mixed contemporary audience from Tamil speakers to children who did not speak any Indian language, she weaved seamlessly between English and Tamil and used benign witticism to absorb the attention of everyone in the auditorium.

Vishaka Hari uses the power of storytelling, shift in emotions, and soulful and stirring music, to create awareness and joy in our culture and traditions among people living in foreign countries. To witness her mesmerizing concert, come to Chinmaya Mission Boston on April 11th at 7pm with family and friends and join Vishaka Hari on a spiritual journey to find Krishna through Meera.
