NETS Celebrates Children's Day

What a spectacular evening of kids programs at Keefe Tech School, Framingham on Saturday Nov. 9th for NETS Children’s Day. Among all NETS events, Children’s Day take high precedence – reason being this is the one and only kid’s event. It was an elated evening bringing up kids talent and proficiency in Tamil – our mother tongue. This highly motivates all kids to learn their language and spread it through cultural activities. It was quite a long day but an energetic one starting from 2.00 p.m. and going till 9.00 p.m. non-stop with close to 200 attendees.

Program began with the traditional Thamizh Thai Vazhthu sung by Priya Anand, Poongothai Govind and Bhuvana Ramesh. The Emcee of the evening Bamiela Venkat gave a brief introduction about Children’s Day, Nehru Mama and the real message of celebrating it. Along with her, Suba Suresh emceed the whole event.

Our New Executive Committee took high pride in introducing our new NETS President Mr. Raj Velmurugan for this Children’s day who gave the introduction speech addressing NETS news.  It was all geared up with the Fancy Dress for kids less than 5 years. They all did an amazing job; to name a few: Brave Bharathiyaar, Minnal Bharatha Matha, Sparkling Shiva & Parvathi, Karakaatanga Mangai & Miss NETS.

This Children’s Day marked the magnificent exhibiting of Tamil knowledge in Talent Show. Kids portrayed Arunagiri Nathar as in Thiruppugazh, Avvaiyaar narrating Aathichoodi, Bharathiyaar’s Thamizhisai and many more. Talent show brought unique instrumental talent as well among the kids. There were kids dancing extravagantly for “Vennilavey Dance” and “Manmadhan Anbu Song”. Magic show by the brothers was fool proof.

NETS famous “Thirukkural Recital Competition” is our ever time pillar for the event. Kids were so spontaneous in their recital which included their awesome throw, language accent and their good memory. Prizes were awarded for the first three best reciters after at least a round of tie in each age group.

NETS for the first time decided to stage up “Pechu Potti – Tamil Elocution” and “Katturai Potti – Essay Writing” for Children’s Day which proved to be mega hit among the audience. One cannot explain kid’s enthusiasm on the stage; the content they delivered with the modulation in Pechu Potti was outstanding. Judges (Ilango Chinnasami, Uma Nellaiappan, Ramesh Peelamedu and Poongundran Dharmarajan) were thrilled at the output of the kid’s speech/writing on different topics provided to them. Parents did an excellent job in teaching them and they were really proud to see their kid’s performance.

NETS president Raj Velmurugan gave the community news, introduced the new committee members to the audience in his own way.  NETS awaited program “Super Dance – Competition” stole the show in its consecutive second year. Being classified in to 4 groups based on age group and type of dance, kids got the audience in their hands. Audience were applauding and whistling non-stop for all the rocking performances. All the performances were superb and extra-ordinary; judges (Sujatha Meyappan, Sheethal Dwaraka & Thenu Rajan) had a very hard time selecting the one and only First Prize Winners from each group.

Ending note came with Kamalanathan’s Vote of Thanks. He thanked everyone for all the tremendous and remarkable support to NETS, being said the fact that this is all staged by volunteers who dedicated their valuable time and effort making it a big success. This would  not been an success without our NETS Committee Members: Raj Velmurugan, Chennakesavan Venkataraman, L.K.Krishnan, Ramesh Venkataramani, Bamiela Venkat, Poongothai Govind, Suba Suresh, Suresh Kumar, Kamalanathan Gnanadesikan, Shoba Suresh, Poongundran Dharmarajan and all their families with all volunteers. Our Food sponsors were Madras Grill, our event sponsors were MAT Science, SMART Kids, ALOHA & CITI Air.

All these are done for the small smile expected from a child’s face, but when the smile was from 100 and more kids who participated and got trophies, our enthusiasm in bringing more and more quality programs are shooting up high.

Looking forward for the upcoming NETS Pongal Vizhaa in February 2014.
