Navaratri / Durga Puja At Sree Vijaya Durga Temple

Sree Vijaya Durga Temple located at 85, Wilmington Road, Burlington is conducting the annual Devi Sarannavaratri/Durga Puja with great devotion under the guidance of Sri. Bhavani Tejasvi. Sarannavartri is a special period where 10 different avatars of Devi are explained in detail. These avatars are portrayed in the temple through different alankars to Devi during each of the 10 days of Navaratri. Starting with Bala Tripura Sundari, Annapurna, Gayatri, Shodasi and Saraswati on the Panchami day mark the first 5 days of Navaratri. Saraswati Puja and Aksharabhyas is performed on the Panchami. Devotees have participated in large numbers all these days and quite a few families have participated in the Samuhik Aksharabhyas on Wednesday, 9th October despite being a weekday. On Vijaya Dasami, Saraswati Puja is performed and Samuhik Aksharabhyas is conducted again on Sunday, the 13th October. Lalitha Sahasranama Puja, the Avarata Puja, Pushpanjali, Ariti, Shantijal was held followed by a different tune of Garba on each day in conclusion of each of these five days.

Devotees can avail the darshan of new Durga protima on this occasion. The second part of Navaratri period is marked by the Durga Puja starting on Shashti. On Thursday, the 10thOctober Maha Shasthi Puja is performed. Kola Bou Snan (Puja to a Banana tree) is an age old tradition to worship devi in the Banana tree. Due to Tithi Sandhi, the Maha Saptami and maha Astami Pujas are conducted on Friday, 11th October.  The Astami Puja is the highlight of Durga Puja days. Nava Durga Puja, Sri Kumari Puja (Puja to all Bala kumaris), Astami Sandhi Puja, Pushpanjali mark the Saptami and Astami days.

Durga Havan, Purnahuti, Anjali, Shantijal mark the Navami on 12th October from 9:00 am. Music and Dance seva to devi are as important during the occasion. In this connection, organized are the Carnatic concerts by Smt. Pramila Devi and Smt.Harini being held on Saturday. Students of Noopur Dance Academy offer their salutations to Devi through Oddissi dance performance. Maha Navami Sandhi Puja, Boli dan, Shantijal, Devi Bhjajans concude the Navami day.

Vijaya Dasami is the most important days among Sarannavaratri.  Dasami Saraswati puja, Aksharabhyas is held in the AM of 13th.

Students of Smt. Ranjani Saigal offer their seva to devi through Bharatanatyam dance performance. Smt.Ranjani Saigal has been instrumental in providing the support to offer this seva to Devi for years since the beginning. Carnatic concert by Smt.Pramila Devi followed by Dance performance by students of Smt.Jeyanthi Ghatraju conclude the sevas to Devi through music and dance.  Sandhi Puja, Pushpanjali, Aparajita Puja, Darpan Visarjan, Misti Mukh, Arti, Shantijal, Sindoor Khela and Bhajans conclude the event on a grand scale.
