In Conversation With MIT India Conference - Co Chairs

Priyank Mathur and Mohit Kansal are co-chairs of the 2013 MIT India Conference. Priyank Mathur is a second-year MBA candidate at MIT Sloan. Prior to joining MIT, Priyank worked as a Policy Adviser at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Office of the Secretary. He has also worked as a Senior International Strategy Analyst at the College Board and as a consultant at Mercer Consulting in New York. Priyank has an M.A. in International Relations from Boston University (class of 2008). Mohit Kansal is a second-year MBA candidate at MIT Sloan. Prior to joining MIT, Mohit worked an Equity Derivatives Structurer/Trader at investment banks in London and Hong Kong. He spent the summer of 2013 working for the Government of India as a part of the “Aadhaar” project. Mohit has a B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (class of 2007).

What is the main focus of Conference?

The theme of the 2013 MIT India Conference is Divided we stand – exploring the role of dissonance in India’s progress. The purpose of this event is to facilitate a meaningful dialogue that offers insights into tackling the challenges and opportunities facing India. The conference will be a one-day event on Sunday, October 6, 2013. Attendees are provided with breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack.

Can you highlight some of the major panels and speakers?

The conference will include keynote speeches, panel discussions and a showcase of various MIT projects/startups linked to India. Keynote Speakers include: 1. Dr. Raghuram Rajan, Governor of the Reserve Bank of India 2. MIT’s Director of Digital Learning Professor Sanjay Sarma 3. Indian Ambassador to the United States Nirupama Rao (Tentative) Below are topics for panel discussions that will be featured during the conference: 1. Healthcare panel - Scalable innovation in healthcare 1. Education panel - Impact of Right to Education (RTE) on India 2. Entrepreneurship panel - Scaling a startup to a large enterprise

Who should attend and why?

 Since its inception as one of the largest university-wide India conferences in the United States, the MIT India Conference has drawn thousands of attendees, including distinguished academics, professionals, and students from the New England area. We invite all who have a personal or professional interest in India to attend to the conference so they may learn from, and contribute towards, discussions about a range of critical issues facing the nation.
