Ek Haseen Shaam - Hasne Hasane Ke Naam

The annual comedy night presented by Hindi Manch has become a much-anticipated event in New England. The event showcases skits, poems and stand-up comedy presented in the Hindi Language. This year’s event was held on July 27, 2013 at the Thoreau School Auditorium in Concord, MA.

Hindi Manch is a non-profit (501-C-3) organization to bring together people, who know Hindi or who want to know Hindi together through cultural, social and educational programs and activities and to propagate Hindi language and culture among the future generations. This organization is not related to any caste, religion, region or area and welcomes everyone in the organization. Here the word Hindi is equivalent to ‘Hindi and similar languages and dialects' like Urdu, Bhojpuri, Brij, and Hindi that we speak in various states etc.

Sushil Bhatia, a proponent of Laughter Yoga, was the chief guest for the evening and he inaugurated the event with the lighting of the lamp.  Sunanda Sahay, Niwedita Dubey and Preetesh Shrivastava (President, Hindi Manch) served as anchors for the evening. It was wonderful to hear the anchors conduct the program in Hindi unadulterated without the use of words from other languages.

The event featured fabulous Hasya Kavitayen and Stand-up Comedy by Dr. Yogeshwar Dayal, Sunayna Kachroo, Ali Rizvi, Eshani Shah and Chandu Shah.

Several comedy skits were enacted by local artists. Beautiful sets created by Shriniwas Sane, Smriti Narula and Vikas Rana, and excellent audio support provided by Jawed Wahid, Anish Khanzode and Dilip Pai added a professional touch to the skits.

Paan Kaththa Aur Choona, written, directed and enacted by Raksha Soni, Ranjani Saigal, Vanita Shastri and Pushpa Shrivastava (Naree Natya Mandali) added a humorous twist to the issue of Indian American mothers seeking suitable matches for their children.

Chalo Chalte Hain, writer and directed by Rahul Joshi, enacted by Puneesh Chaudhary, Rucha Londhe, Satish Palayam, Malini Varadrajan, Madhu Nene, Sanjay Jain and Prasad Deshpandey had some “other worldly humor” cleverly intertwined with at-home humor in the lives a couple.

Muftkhor Mandali, directed and coordinated by Ajay Jain, Ajay Jaisingh and Vikas Rana and enacted by Ajay Jaisingh, Swati Sane, Bibekanand Das, Vikas Rana, Ajay Jain, Pallavi Gupta and Kamal Suppal was a fabulous take on the “unwanted free-loading guests” situation often encountered in India.

Pani Ki Samasya written by Dr. Ram Gupta and enacted by Manish kumar Mishra, Deepak.Vishnu, Rahul Datar, Niharika Mehta and Pranay Khare was a political satire.  The event also featuring musical presentations by Parag Joshi, Ujjwal Parikh, Jyoti Sharma and Valentino Almeida, who were Hindi Manch SaReGaMaPa 2012 finalists.

Hindi Manch appreciation award was presented to Mr. Ram Pravesh Prasad – Hindi teacher from Nashua Shishu Bharti for his efforts to teach the language to the next generations. Upendra Mishra presented the award.

True to its name, the event kept the audience laughing for a long time. Kudos to the Hindi Manch team for presenting such a wonderful event.
