Cricket has become a weekend routine for some of the Indians and Pakistanis in the Metrowest area. The Municipal Field in Shrewsbury which hosted its first game in Sep 2011 is currently running at full capacity during summer with 4 games played each weekend. The cricket ground hosts two leagues - the Massachusetts State Cricket League (MSCL) and the Tennis Ball Cricket League. Both leagues play 2 games each on the weekend. The purpose of this cricket ground was not just for adult recreation. Saqib Syed and Fazal Alam, two Shrewsbury residents and former cricketers started the cricket clinic for kids last summer with a vision to promote cricket at the town level across United States. The clinic is in high demand and has grown to 40 kids this summer. The kids aged 7-12yrs get basic batting, bowling, and fielding skills. Adrian Jordan, a ICC Level 1 certified coach oversees the activities of the kids. "The plan is to identify talent at an early stage and send some of the talented kids to the high performance coaching clinics in the future", said Saqib Syed.

Recently the clinic was graced by Robin Singh, former India cricketer, Mumbai Indians coach, and USA cricket coach. Robin Singh worked with the kids on the basics of the game. Robin Singh also answered questions from the audience and the kids.

"We were gratified by the interest and enthusiasm shown by the parents and the kids during Robin Singh's visit.", said Fazal Alam.  Robin Singh is currently coaching the US cricket team which is playing a tournament in Canada. This is the first youth cricket clinic that Robin Singh has visited in the US since he became the coach of the US cricket team. Robin Singh was impressed at the interest level and enthusiasm for cricket in Shrewsbury.

Mike Thomas, Treasurer, US Youth Cricket Association talked to the youth about the opportunities for Cricket in US.

Sumeer Goel, President, Commonwealth Cricket Club presided the activities and thanked the sponsors Hitwicket restaurant, audience and volunteers for their support.

There will be plenty of opportunities for the kids to play competitive cricket in the future and hopefully some of the kids from Shrewsbury will represent US as the interest for the sport develops.
