Press Release
07/04/2013

TiE Young Entrepreneurs (TyE) is TiE-Boston’s signature program that aims to nurture the next generation of entrepreneurs. TyE-Boston is now seeking highly motivated high school students for this program. Applications will be open from July 9 to August 19. Click here for more information on the application process.

Established in 2005, TyE Boston is embarking on its ninth year of introducing entrepreneurship and business to high school students and developing the leadership skills and self confidence of young students. Over 270 students from over 25 local schools have discovered the rewards and challenges of becoming entrepreneurs and business leaders.

Since the inception of TyE, many TyE Alumni students have had great successes. Nivedha Ram was named a 2013 Presidential Scholar. Abhi Ashutosh built and released an iOS calendar app earlier this year. Mohini Srivastav and Kyle Kahveci started myskylark.com which integrates all online teenagers' activities on to one platform. Naman Bharadwaj, launched a robotics company, Shaqbot.

During the program, students attend interactive discussions and workshops led by industry experts and entrepreneurs on Saturday mornings. Last year several business luminaries spoke to the TyE students which included Ashok Boghani, Monitor Group; Jay Tuli, LeaderBank; Jared Chung, TEDxCambridge, and Rama Ramakrishnan, CQuotient.

The classes conclude with a 10K Business Plan competition where TyE teams pitch their business plans to a panel of judges comprising of VCs and leading entrepreneurs at the Annual TyE Gala. The winning team from Boston will then participate in the TyE-Global Business Plan competition.

The TyE program has grown since it was adopted by TiE-Global in 2009 with 25 to 30 TiE chapters participating this year. The winner from each TyE chapter participates in the TyE-Global competition. In the three TyE Global competitions conducted to date, TyE-Boston teams have emerged as first, second, and third prize winners in 2010, 2011, and 2013 respectively.

A TyE-kickoff event will take place in September where students and their parents will hear from the TyE committee and past TyE students about the program and what to expect in the coming months.
