The ISW Kavi Sammelan has become an event  that the community eagerly looks forward to with much anticipation.

This year  Dr. Kunwar Bechain, Dr. Suresh Awasthi and Mr. Deepak Gupta, leading Hasya Kavis from India and maestros of humor with impeccable timing and delivery, entertained a packed hall at the India center for over three hours bringing home some very poignant thoughts mixed with humor. The event was held at the India Society of Worcester hall on April 26.

The laughter of the Kavi Sammelan was a welcome relief for Bostonians following the intense manhunt for the alleged marathon bomber. The event almost got cancelled.  For the people assembled there, the news of the capture of the alleged bomber did not come until after the event. For those few hours, the Kavis succeeded in taking our minds off the the terrible tragedy and transported us to a world of comedy and fine poetry.

In the true spirit of Hasya Ras, the poets poked fun at each other and the audience. Some of the poetry was recited yet others sung. Dr. Kunwar Bechain melodious voice left the audience mesmerized, Dr. Awasthi’s recitation style and the delivery of his compositions brought the house down, Mr. Deepak Gupta the youngest of them all brought a whole new perspective to the young married life. Their heart-warming recitals left the audience regaling with laughter and wanting for more. They recited poetry and anecdotes on all aspects of every day life had the audience looking at the same things in a very different light. They left us with a promise to come back again for this Annual Event at India Society of Worcester.
