Akshaya Patra Internships/ Volunteer Opportunities

Press Release

AKSHAYA PATRA
(WWW.FOODFOREDUCATION.ORG)

Too Many Of India's Children Are Forced To Choose Food Over Education

Rather than attend school, many children must earn money to bring food to the family, focusing on short-term goals and not longer-term opportunities. The result is poor health and educational outcomes that only traps them in the cycle of poverty.

Solution - Akshaya Patra is a mid-day lunch program, helping underprivileged children by providing them with a healthy, balanced meal that they would otherwise have to work for. The meal is an incentive for them to continue their education. It helps reduce the dropout rate to
an enormous extent and increases classroom attendance.

Every day, Akshaya Patra delivers 1.3 million freshly prepared school lunches to children in India to fight hunger, promote education, and eradicate poverty – one child at a time.

Here are the main objectives of this program:

- Avoid classroom hunger
- Increase school enrollment
- Increase school attendance
- Address malnutrition
- Empower women through employment
- Improve socialization among children
