Music Review - Armaan

Chitra Parayath
05/07/2003

Go ahead and give this CD a listen! Finally, some music worth sampling comes out of Bollywood.

Composers Shankar- Ehsaan- Loy have done it again , here is a memorable track for Honey Irani’s Armaan starring Amitabh, Anil Kapoor, Gracie Singh and Preity Zinta. Armaan is the most awaited and star-studded movie of recent times. The movie brings together Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Kapoor on the big screen and Honey Irani and her ex-Husband Zaved Akhtar for the first time. Armaan (desire) claims to be all about dreams, desires, and love.
Honey's ex husband Javed Akhtar has penned the lyrics for this much anticipated film.

Chitra’s Mera Dil Ka Tumse Hi Kehna has a mischievous tune, captivating and mood elevating, followed by Sonu and Sunidhi’s upbeat Meri Zindagi mein aaye ho. Sunidhi sounds excellent, proving that Sur was not just a flash in the pan. Given the right director she has the potential to mature into a fine artist.

Udit’s Yeh Armaan is pleasing to the ears, he has ample spport from Shaan, Mahalaxmi and newcomer Bhairavi Kumble. The next song Jaane yeh kya ho gaya by Shankar Mahadevan and Alka Yagnik has a western flair with rich Saxophone and piano overtones.

Tuhi Bata Zindagi is rendered twice in the album, first by Roop Kumar Rathod, who is all melancholy and loss and later by Shreya Gosal who pleases with her version of the song.

Aaon Milke Aise Gaayen is adequate at best, it is the only song in the album that is forgettable and a tad mediocre.

The Jugalbandhi as the final piece is a closure quite befitting this pleasing collection and Amitabh’s monologue at the very end whets one’s appetite for the film!

Set against a medical backdrop, Armaan is Honey Irani's directiroial debut. Her son (with Javed Akhtar) Farhan made the successful Dil Chahta Hai last year.
