Young Voices Gavel Club - Shrewsbury, MA

“If you want to be a leader, you had better be able to communicate.”- Prof. Paul Argenti.  Public speaking and communication is one of the most important skills needed in life.  For youth and teens this skill helps in grooming them to be leaders.  Clubs like Toastmasters have been inculcating fearless and flawless public speaking for adults for a long time.

It was with a mission of imparting this skill to kids between 6th graders and 12th graders that the team of Ashok Jakati and Arun Chaudhari started the Young Voice Gavel Club in Sharon, MA since 2011.  This successful club has now started operations at ATFS Learning Center in Shrewsbury, MA.

Young Voices Gavel Club (YVGC) of Shrewsbury, led by Askok Jakati and Arun Chaudhari, is a club dedicated in helping middle and high school students learn the art of public speaking in front of an audience, in addition to effective body language.  The club also plans to take part in local community service opportunities.

With about thirteen members, me being one of them, we recently had our office bearer elections.  In the Gavel Club, every member of the club has a say of the club’s decisions.  Congratulations to:

President:  Abhi Jain
Vice President of Education:  Damini Chelladurai
Vice President of Public Relations:  Sanjana Rao
Vice President of Membership:  Varun Swamy
Secretary:  Aishwarrya Nambi
Treasurer:  Rishi Khattery
Sergeant of Arms:  Ashwin Shivashankar

Members in the committees of these positions:  Anjana Shenoy, Ram Ramanathan, Abhai Shukla, Pratit Kadimdiwan, Aashish Basani, and Sahiti Basani.

The Shrewsbury YVGC has been smoothly running every Saturday morning since fall.  Not only have we had several meetings already, each one filled with speech topics to talk about, we also had intense debates and fun games to help public speaking.  We also have a sense of community belonging in the weekly meets.  YVGC has been a great addition to my Saturdays and I plan to engage in the club actively.
